9th January 2022 - Do not Fear

Writer: Rev ClaireRev Claire

Welcome to our online service. We are only meeting online this week, but the good news is that we will be meeting in person for an All Age Covenant service on the 16th January.

As we are solely online, we are opening after church coffee on zoom again. The link is here. Please note that this is different to our previous coffee room, so make sure you have the right link.

Coming Up

Our midweek activities have delayed reopening in person until at least w/b 17th January, apart from food parcel distribution which continues every Thursday.

If all goes well Crafty Needles and Poppy Cafe will return on the 18th and 19th January and Chatterbox stay and play on the 25th.

The Youth Cafe planned for this is afternoon is cancelled - we hope to begin in February!

Next week on Monday evening (17th January) at 8pm on zoom (see link above) we begin our Monday evening Bible study again - we will be doing the Prayer Course 2 - Unanswered prayer. All are welcome to attend.

Worship

Call to Worship (Psalm 29)

Praise the Lord, you angels of his; praise his glory and his strength.

Praise him for his majestic glory, the glory of his name. Come before him clothed in sacred garments.

The voice of the Lord echoes from the clouds.

The God of glory thunders through the skies.

So powerful is his voice; so full of majesty.

It breaks down the cedars. It splits the giant trees of Lebanon.

It shakes Mount Lebanon and Mount Sirion. They leap and skip before him like young calves! The voice of the Lord thunders through the lightning.

It resounds through the deserts and shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord spins and topples the mighty oaks. It strips the forests bare.

They whirl and sway beneath the blast.

But in his Temple all are praising, “Glory, glory to the Lord.”

At the Flood the Lord showed his control of all creation. Now he continues to unveil his power.

He will give his people strength. He will bless them with peace.

Songs for Today

Here are the songs for today. You might want to save the last two for before or after the sermon

Looking Ahead

In the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, when Lucy goes into land of Narnia she is told that in Narnia it's always winter and never Christmas. Winter can sometimes feel like it goes on forever like this, but we know from the seasons that spring will come.

In Isaiah 43:18-19 it says:

"See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland"

Whatever we are facing right now, we know something new will come - that spring is ahead, however long the winter is.

Watch the video below and be inspired about what is ahead. Now is not everything, the past is not everything, the future though..... it's full of possibility. Spring is coming. Give glory to God.

Here is Claire bringing us a reflection on Isaiah 43:1-21 - you might want to read it first - it's available here

Here is the song Claire refers to at the end of her sermon
